About Rutu Palav

A seasoned calligrapher and graphic designer, my journey into the world of letters began at home. Growing up watching my father, Master Calligrapher Achyut Palav, bring scripts to life on walls, fabrics, and unexpected surfaces left a lasting impression, one that naturally drew me to the art of calligraphy.

Over time, I’ve focused my practice on Devanagari calligraphy, a script I find endlessly expressive. To me, each letter carries its own character and rhythm, and when paired with others, forms a visual language that tells a deeper story. I have explored both traditional & experimental tools to push the boundaries of what this script can become.

Yet, no matter how far I experiment, I always return to the basics: ink, paper, and a pen. It’s a grounding ritual, one that connects me to my craft and to myself. Calligraphy, for me, isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s a way of being, learning, and reflecting.
